10,000 Mile Race- Part IV of the Multi-Dimensional Collaboration Commissioned and Produced By Kino 21
The 10,000 Mile Race was presented by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and Kino 21 as a part of the Bay Area Now 5, the Triennial art, film and performance exhibition. The Multi-dimensional media experience was adapted from the "10,000 Mile Race" from The Supermale by Alfred Jarry, (trans. Ralph Gladstone, Barbara Wright) and was orchestrated for this event by Konrad Steiner. It was subsequently performed at the Exploratorium in 2009. This live music, film, narration and projection performance was based on a chapter, about a promotional race between a 5-man bike team and an express train across Siberia, from Alfred Jarry's outrageous 1906 novel THE SUPERMALE, known on Wikipedia as the "first cyborg sex novel."
Filmmakers Included: Bill Basquin, Paul Clipson, Jerome Hiler, Kerry Laitala and Konrad Steiner, with Live projector performace at the grand finale
MUSIC composed by Graham Connah played live by his crack 8-piece pickup ensemble
Master oration was provided by poet Brent Cunningham
